I think I have seen this somewhere on an nks related website but not totally sure.... it is a cool pattern...
I stumbled upon it accidentally.

Look at the structures in rule 30 which have those vertical lines and which progress from left to right at 45 degree diagonal:

Now look at this rule which seems to "fill in" the rule 30 structures mentioned above.
(careful: my browser sometimes shrinks this image and thereby distorts it. look at it in 100% 'zoom')

Hmmm, strange.

By the way, the "shards" is basically rule 30 with a twist:
after computing each new row, do this: invert it. Then, proceed to the next row production step.

Forgive me if this is a dense question (and forgive me for asking you rather than investigating it myself), but when you say you're inverting the row, you mean you're switching black for white in each cell, or you mean you're flipping the row left-to-right, so that the rightmost cell ends up on the left edge and vice-versa?

I simply inverted the cell color. Sorry my wording was a little confusing.

Side note: I think I have seen "shards of glass" in the "simple programs" atlas. I do not think it was computed the same way I did it.
