rule 30 inverse
Look at the structures in rule 30 which have those vertical lines and which progress from left to right at 45 degree diagonal:

Now look at this rule which seems to "fill in" the rule 30 structures mentioned above.
(careful: my browser sometimes shrinks this image and thereby distorts it. look at it in 100% 'zoom')

Hmmm, strange.
By the way, the "shards" is basically rule 30 with a twist:
after computing each new row, do this: invert it. Then, proceed to the next row production step.
