Qauntum superposition and delayed evaluation

Is the phenomena of quantum superposition an example of delayed evaluation in a computational system? In the absence of an observer does a universal compuational substrate "optimize" or " take a shortcut" in computing the outcome of a physical interaction or event? Is this optimization by design in that the universal computational engine does not bother to calculate or decide on a particular outcome unless absolutely neccessary?

Also, can non-local quantum effects such as entanglement be viewed as a form of delayed evaluation in a compuational process?

Is there somewhere in the NKS book where Stephen Wolfram discusses entanglement and/or superposition? Is delayed evaluation the proposed explanation?
