An accidental rediscovery
I didn't know where to post this anecdote, but this seems a good place.
A friend of mine told me that there was this awesome programmer/mathematician, and there were cool designs made by dots flipping other dots, and he had a book full of those designs.
I tried to make a pattern of my own, but I completely misunderstood what he meant, and made my program here. When he gave me a copy of the book to show me how different the ones in the book were, I skimmed it for a week or so.
Just today, I saw reversible rule 150, and it was exactly like the top half of my generated design, and it was generated with a completely different method.
I guess this just shows how universal these patterns are.
