Here is the Excel to generate the book results p60-70 (the first 128 iterations anyway)

For more iterations you can extend the formulae downwards (select the last line and drag it down as far as you like to copy the formulae) but be careful because if the pattern reaches the edges of the worksheet it will wrap around and corrupt the image. For the 'edge' states this is not a big deal but for the 'pyramid' shapes this occurs after 127 steps.
