2D Turing Machines, 50th anniversary of Turing's death

At my latest Math Games column, you can see a discussion of recent findings in 2D and 3D Turing machines.

I wrote it to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Turing's death.

One item of note -- the best known 5-state, 2-color busy beaver has been unchallenged for 14 years. If any problem is within easy range of a computer attack these days, it's this one.
