John Walker has a website about patterns and shapes found in typical plants, multiple scales of similar pyramids and phyllotaxis whorls in broccoli and cauliflower and the like. His page also includes a review of the NKS books and references to Rudy Rucker and Benoit Mandelbrot. "It seems like the universe just wants to compute", he says at one point.
