At page 274.
I have done the figure at page 273, but i dont succeed to make the figure shown in the next page (274).
I have changed the rule (page 273 rule 184, page 274 rule 90 or not?) and I have set up the equal initial conditions (white cells = black cells), but dont' work, I must make other modifications?
The figure at page 274 use only the rule 90 or 184?
Which differences have the two figures?

The rule on page 274 is a range 2 rule, not a range 1 rule. It depends on a neighborhood 5 cells wide in total. So instead of 2^(2^3) possible rules, it is in a space with 2^(2^5) possible rules. Hence its large rule number. There are 32 cases in its rule table rather than 8. The rule number tells us how to fill out those cases, according to -

IntegerDigits[4067213884, 2, 32]

{1, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1, 0, 0, 
1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0}


In Mathematica, the way to specify a range 2 rule to the CellularAutomaton function is by using this form for the first argument -

CellularAutomaton[{4067213884, 2, 2}, initial, steps];

I've attached a simple 5.1 notebook that makes plots of this rule - or any other range 2 rule if you change the rule number - from random initials.

rule 90 and 184 consist of 8 rule.

the range with 32 rule is like this attachment.
