I was wondering if anybody has tried to model the classic two slit experiment of quantum mechanics with some kind of cellular automata. I'm thinking that if anybody models successfully the two slit experiment in any way that one can see how the interference pattern appears, it would have a lot of relevance in modern physics, and make the cellular automaton model of the universe quite plausible.

An interesting description of one 2-slit expriment is in:

"waves and grains" by Mark P. Silverman (Princeton Paperbacks)

Chapter 6: Young's two-slit experiment with electrons

..in which individual electrons over a long period create an interference pattern. How does each electron "know" where to go? What to "interfere" with? The author works some of these issues.

The book describes other experiments in optics with reference to original works by Newton, Maxwell et al. It's a good read.
