Hello

I need to get the evolution of an R-Pentomino in the Game of Life in a matrix of 30 by 40 cells in separate images for every generation (323 generations in total). Anyone knows a way to do this?

I have software which makes animated GIFs from cellular automata and it is trivial to break them up into separate files for each frame. An earlier version of that software is the basis of the Perl script giffer.pl distributed with Golly which should be adequate for your purpose.

I had a quick look at the numbers you provided and found they don't provide sufficiently definitive information. On an unbounded plane r-pentonimo runs over 1100 iterations and occupies a lot more than 30x40, even ignoring the departing gliders. Confined to a 30x40 torus, in one orientation r runs 365 iterations before stabilising and in the other it runs 182.

Thank you for this information is important
