One of the successful applications of NKS is Boltzmann lattice gas modeling.
R.B. Pandey, et al. (January 23, 2008) just published a study which used an interacting lattice gas model.

"Can a difference in molecular weights cause an eruption in a driven flow of self-organizing immiscible system?"
A mixture of constituents having different molecular weights and subjected to pressure against gravity erupted a heavy constituent stream at high pressure bias. The greater the difference in molecular weight, the greater the eruptive flow response.
How about the channel for the eruption" Does NKS show where it will be, i.e. bulk porosity? Does this explain reverse osmosis?
