page 56 of the book shows this for rule 151:
Step 1
1
Step 2 - 3 black cells
111
Step 3 - 5 black cells
11111
and so forth, showing all black cells...
According to rule 151 {1,0,0,1,0,1,1,1} shouldn't step 3 look like this:
10101
Am I missing something or not looking at this right?
Thanks,
Dan Ellwein

Both online and in print, page 56 correctly shows Rule 151 going from a single black cell to a complete black line and staying black.
It is one of several rules where a single black cell gives no hint of the richer patterns from more complex starting patterns.

Because 151 is odd, it turns the white background into a black background on a single step, and since it is >=128, once there is an all black background, the background stays all black.
On a white background, {1,1,1} turns into {1,0,1,0,1} on the next step but after the first step the background is black not white.
