I've been exploring cellular automata with cells updated by functions that depend on the average of the cell. I found a very interesting rule that I still keep exploring. Some parameters of that rule generated Belousov-Zhabotinksy reaction patterns. I tried to capture the essential behaviour of that rule with those particular parameters and I came to a simple totalistic two dimensional CA rule with three colors.

Here I show two snapshots for those people who don't have Mathematica, and I attach two notebooks with the rule specifications and different initial conditions to generate them in each notebook.
