There was a guy at the 2006 NKS conference in DC who said his organization would be offering a prize if someone could come up with a continuously-improving evolutionary system, or something like that.
I don't remember the guy's name, or the organization, or the exact terms he used, but the gist of it was that the prize would be for coming up with a system that was closed, with no outside input or externally-injected modifications after the start of the run, but that the system would demonstrate continuous genetic improvement/evolution/whatever.
What has happened with this? The discussion in the room seemed to me to center around hardening the target...one gentlemen suggested, I thought rather piercingly (and humorously) that a prime number generator would satisfy the requirements as stated.
So what's the status of this prize? Are written, quantitative requirements in place and a methodology for determining the winner decided? How much is the reward? I am very interested to know, as I am ready to claim my bounty.
