Hi,
I am a designer/animator in India. I have been experimenting with 'something' on my computer, but only recently came to know that it was a whole branch of study called fractals and cellular automat.
The stuff that I was working on involved simple visual programs to create dynamic
visual imagery that accidently resembled the religious art of both christian and oriental religious orgin.
I was surprised to see the results.
But I started it only to simulate the behaviour of subatomic particles in a quantum mechanical manner.
I was reading about a concept called quantum entanglement in which if u rotate a particle in one direction, another particle automatically rotates in the opposit direction as if they were conneted by some invisible communication channel. Also from the idea of self interference of even a single particle inspired me to create a program that aloows self interference to happen in a particle. I arranged the particles in not a square but a circular grid.
This was from the conclusion that the grid must be circular in space. As I run this self interfering and entangled dots
with a particular time cycle, unbelievable forms of insects and bugs and flies got created. I applied other permutations and complex instects get created everytime. Its an animated circular cellular automata. I have a feeling that there is a particular programe that universe uses to create forms. This visual programe is similar to the double circular form which is considered divine in Hindu religion.
I would like to call it as a search for the exact algorithm. (the very algorythm that creates this universe.) I feel that there is just one simple algorythm.
Can anyone suggest where I can do a research on this subject. Its not exactly cellular automata, but is similar to it just that I use particls or dots arranged in a circular grid. The square grid is embeded in the circular grid when many circular grids overlap with one another.
Can a design school alow research is such a field. I don't know under which discipline this comes in. But it has links with art, design, science, architecture, astronomy, society, economy....
Can anyone reply and help me?

Hi Sachit, you probably read my article on my system i discovered in 1992 under 'newq species of fractal.'
I draw by hand and have not yet used a program to iterate.
Your system sounds exactly along the similar lines as mine and i have no doubt taht you too have found it extremely enlightening experience. To have seen the face of god is truly great!
I dont know of any school that deals in this - in fact, it is as yet unestablished as a discpline simply because scientists may see it as a crank subject. I have thought of starting a course myself to lecture to esoteric students like that of the schumaker college in dartington, UK, but as yet have not the courage to begin. Im still
developing the ideas. i will watch your swf file later.
I have emailed some scientists but they say to write a paper and publish it as a peer reviewed letter. I suspect there is a very good quantum / astrophysics department in Indian universities as I have read some interesting stuff from Indian physicsts. This is a very beautiful subject and from my part, I have named it QUANTOSYNTHESIS which is the way space , its quanta, assembles itself. It is also named 'God'.
Im glad that you are working on the same subject from a quantum entanglement viewpoint. maybe we will meet again.

Hi Mick,
Good to hear from you. I was really struggling to find people who understood what I was trying to do.
People generally around me(designers) are not able to understand the link between CAs and the way the universe functions. Infact people don't even care. They are happy doing their jobs and getting a good salary. I was really mentally starving till I found this forum and saw so many people thinking on similar lines. Though I still don't understand the mathematical part discussed in the forum but a rough picture does get created that people are trying to figure out the mystery.
I feel that Design as a profession is hanging somewhere in mid air.
I mean here we have the community of scientis who are really passionate about understanding the mystery of life and build systems from that understanding. But I have not seen designers trying to create stuff out of this wholistic vision.
Though some artists do try to do that and succeed.
There is much that design can learn from science.

Sachin, I am following your research and would like to see your .swf example. It doesn't open in my realplayer, it has an error message. can you see if it is okay?
I am an artist in NY and am interested in the grid verses the round grid visualization. I've been contemplating these "insect" like manifestations in other programs that I use for my work.

The image you sent is interesting. I think it will be good to share how these results have been achieved. I am searching for an application for these experiments other than display art. Ofcourse it helps in getting a better understanding of life processes, but I am interested in figuring out how things can be designed through this knowledge.
